UN Security Council to Meet on Hostages at Israel’s Request

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar is set to attend a special UN Security Council session he initiated, following his condemnation of Hamas for a “sadistic propaganda campaign” with hostages. The minister’s remarks were prompted by videos showing two Israeli captives, Evyatar David and Rom Braslavski, in a dire state. Sa’ar stated that the starvation and torture of these individuals are a “deliberate and well-planned” tactic.
Sa’ar drew a direct comparison between Hamas and groups like the Nazis and ISIS, asserting that they have committed similar “evil crimes.” He also criticized the lack of international oversight, noting that the 50 remaining hostages have not been seen by the Red Cross, despite a clear agreement. The minister further alleged that the “starvation campaign” is a “fake propaganda campaign” and that the amount of aid entering Gaza disproves this claim.
He warned that hostage-taking is a strategic tool used by terror groups to achieve their goals and ensure their survival. Sa’ar called this a “dangerous phenomenon” and urged the international community to take a firm stance against it. To elevate the issue, he announced his plans to travel to New York to participate in the UN Security Council session, which was convened with the help of the US and Panama.
In his address, Sa’ar also criticized international media for what he called an “unbalanced and twisted anti-Israeli agenda” and condemned countries for creating a false “symmetry” between hostages and “murderers.” He further claimed that diplomatic moves, such as recognizing a Palestinian state, have only hardened Hamas’s stance and “assassinated the chances” of a hostage deal.
