Vietnam and Denmark Upgrade Relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

Vietnam and Denmark have elevated their bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, marking a significant step in strengthening cooperation across various sectors. This development was announced during the visit of Vietnamese President and Communist Party General Secretary To Lam to Denmark from October 19 to 21, 2026, coinciding with the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

The partnership aims to enhance collaboration in trade, investment, technology, defense, security, and sustainable development. It builds upon the Comprehensive Partnership established in 2013 and the Green Strategic Partnership launched in 2023. Both countries have committed to expanding political dialogue, parliamentary exchanges, and economic cooperation, particularly focusing on renewable energy, green technology, digital transformation, manufacturing, healthcare, education, and transport.

In addition to these areas, Vietnam and Denmark plan to boost business investments, strengthen supply chains, and improve market access through existing trade agreements. A significant aspect of the agreement is the commitment to deepen cooperation on climate action, energy efficiency, and the development of renewable energy projects, supporting Vietnam’s objective to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

The partnership also encompasses maritime security, cybersecurity, research, vocational training, agriculture, and public health. Both nations reaffirmed their dedication to international law, multilateral cooperation, and the peaceful resolution of disputes. They expressed support for regional stability, freedom of navigation, and stronger ties with ASEAN.

To ensure the implementation of the partnership, both governments will develop action plans to translate their commitments into practical cooperation. This strategic alliance aims to foster a robust and dynamic relationship that benefits both countries and contributes to regional and global stability.
