In a significant diplomatic engagement, Vietnam’s General Secretary and State President, Tô Lâm, hosted Cambodian National Assembly President Samdech Khuon Sudary in Hanoi. The focus of their meeting was to reaffirm and strengthen the longstanding friendship and comprehensive partnership between Vietnam and Cambodia.
During their discussions, both leaders underscored the importance of boosting cooperation across various channels, including party, parliamentary, and government levels. They expressed a shared commitment to expanding collaboration in key areas such as defense, security, trade, and cultural exchanges between their peoples. A key priority mentioned was the implementation of existing bilateral agreements to ensure mutual benefits.
Highlighting a regional approach, the leaders emphasized the necessity of enhanced coordination not just between Vietnam and Cambodia, but also including Laos, to address shared challenges and opportunities. This trilateral cooperation is seen as crucial for fostering regional stability and development.
In addition to bilateral relations, the two sides reiterated their commitment to working closely within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and other regional platforms. They agreed on the importance of promoting peace, stability, and regional cooperation, while supporting sustainable development initiatives. The leaders also reaffirmed ASEAN’s central role in maintaining regional affairs, underscoring its significance in the broader geopolitical landscape.
