In a recent meeting in Hanoi, Vietnam’s Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Phạm Gia Túc and Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys explored avenues to enhance bilateral cooperation in various sectors. Both leaders underscored the promising potential for expanding ties in key areas such as trade, investment, the digital economy, energy, logistics, cybersecurity, science, and technology.
During the discussions, Vietnam urged Lithuania to play a supportive role in encouraging the remaining EU member states to ratify the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA). Additionally, Vietnam sought Lithuania’s advocacy for the removal of the European Commission’s “yellow card” on Vietnamese seafood exports, which has significant implications for their trade relations.
Lithuania expressed its dedication to bolstering Vietnam-EU relations and unveiled plans to dispatch a business delegation to Vietnam. This initiative aims to explore and identify new investment opportunities, further cementing the economic ties between the two nations.
Beyond bilateral economic cooperation, the two countries also committed to enhancing their collaborative efforts at broader international forums. They agreed to work together at the United Nations and to strengthen ASEAN-EU relations. Moreover, both parties reiterated their support for peace, stability, and freedom of navigation, all in alignment with international law, reflecting their shared commitment to global cooperation.
