Vietnam is calling for the establishment of a specialized, professional international search and rescue team capable of rapid deployment in global disaster and humanitarian efforts. Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng made this appeal while celebrating the country’s recent rescue mission to Venezuela, which was struck by twin earthquakes. During a ceremony, he commended the 124-member team, comprising military and public security personnel, for their exemplary service and humanitarian contributions.
The Vietnamese rescue team demonstrated significant success during their mission in Venezuela, where they managed to recover 57 victims and distribute 5.6 tonnes of essential relief supplies. In addition to these efforts, the team provided medical care to over 130 residents affected by the disaster and offered further financial assistance to the local communities grappling with the aftermath.
Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng emphasized the need to enhance Vietnam’s disaster response capabilities by investing in modern equipment and specialized training. He urged for improved coordination and stronger international partnerships to ensure the country can effectively contribute to global rescue efforts. Furthermore, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of better support and recognition for those involved in overseas humanitarian missions.
In acknowledgment of their contributions, Vietnam’s rescue delegation was honored with the Hero of Venezuela Medal. This accolade serves as a testament to the team’s dedication and the impact of their work in aiding affected communities in Venezuela, reinforcing Vietnam’s commitment to global humanitarian initiatives.
