Vietnam Urges WTO, WEF to Boost Economic Growth and Trade Support

Vietnam is seeking enhanced support from global economic organizations to bolster its trade and investment landscape. Deputy Prime Minister Nguyễn Văn Thắng has urged the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the World Economic Forum (WEF) to play a pivotal role in advancing Vietnam’s economic development. During discussions held in Switzerland, Thắng stressed the importance of a rules-based global trading system and called on the WTO to implement vital reforms, particularly in its dispute resolution processes. He also emphasized the necessity for the organization to broaden its scope to include critical areas like digital trade, artificial intelligence, climate change, and supply chain resilience.

Thắng outlined Vietnam’s ambition to become a high-income nation by 2045, seeking the WEF’s collaboration in achieving this goal. He proposed enhancing investment, fostering innovation, promoting public-private partnerships, and establishing international financial centers as key areas for cooperation. The Deputy Prime Minister’s appeal underscores Vietnam’s commitment to integrating more deeply into the global economy while addressing emerging challenges through strategic partnerships.

The WTO and WEF officials responded positively to Vietnam’s proposals, acknowledging the nation’s ongoing economic reforms. They pledged to continue supporting Vietnam by focusing on trade facilitation, investment, and capacity-building efforts. This cooperative approach aims to fortify Vietnam’s economic structure and ensure that it remains competitive on the global stage.

These discussions reflect Vietnam’s proactive stance in seeking international collaboration to navigate the complexities of the modern economic environment. By aligning with global standards and leveraging international expertise, Vietnam is positioning itself as a forward-thinking player committed to sustainable and inclusive growth.
