Vietnam has reiterated its dedication to aiding Myanmar through the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), underscoring the importance of the Five-Point Consensus as a fundamental framework for fostering peace and stability in the country. At an informal meeting of ASEAN foreign ministers held in Bangkok, Vietnamese Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung highlighted Myanmar’s significance within ASEAN and pledged support for initiatives aimed at national reconciliation, economic recovery, and enhanced governance.
The Vietnamese foreign minister urged ASEAN to engage in more practical and tangible actions, advocating for regular dialogue and direct engagement with Myanmar to facilitate monitoring of its progress and to encourage substantial advancements. Vietnam expressed its willingness to collaborate closely with the 2026 ASEAN Chair and other member states to assist Myanmar in addressing social issues, tackling transnational crime, and reinforcing regional cooperation.
In their discussions, ASEAN ministers collectively reaffirmed their commitment to a Myanmar-led resolution, emphasizing the necessity of ongoing dialogue and the effective execution of the Five-Point Consensus. Their aim is to foster peace, stability, and sustainable development not only in Myanmar but throughout the region.
