Vietnam’s National Assembly is preparing for its 16th assembly’s inaugural extraordinary session, scheduled to take place from August 3 to August 24 in Hanoi. During this period, lawmakers will engage in discussions encompassing a broad range of legislative topics and important national projects.
The assembly’s agenda includes 33 items, with a focus on passing 15 draft laws and four draft resolutions. Additionally, the first readings of seven new bills are on the docket, alongside deliberations on seven critical national issues. The proposed legislation spans various sectors, including petroleum, urban development, anti-money laundering, telecommunications, customs, investment, publishing, and national defense.
A significant portion of the session will be dedicated to reviewing vital infrastructure and development projects. Among these are the Hanoi Ring Road No. 5, modifications to the Lào Cai–Hà Nội–Hải Phòng railway project, and the Ninh Thuận nuclear power project. Lawmakers will also consider the establishment of new cities in Quảng Ninh and Bắc Ninh.
Furthermore, the extraordinary session will address special policy mechanisms, particularly those relating to renewable energy, APEC 2027 projects, and digital transformation initiatives. These discussions are expected to shape Vietnam’s strategic direction in these key areas, reflecting the assembly’s commitment to addressing pressing national needs and adapting to evolving global trends.
