Vietnam, Malaysia Enhance Defense Ties and Bolster Regional Partnership

Vietnam and Malaysia are enhancing their defence cooperation efforts as both nations aim to strengthen their bilateral relationship and promote regional stability. During discussions in Hanoi, Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister, General Phan Văn Giang, commended Malaysia’s outgoing Ambassador, Dato’ Tan Yang Thai, for his significant contributions to bolstering ties between the two countries.

General Giang acknowledged the advancements made in defence relations, highlighting the importance of ongoing military exchanges, policy discussions, and collaborative training initiatives. These efforts have been complemented by joint participation in international and multilateral events, underscoring the depth of cooperation between Vietnam and Malaysia.

In a bid to sustain this momentum, Giang urged for the continued implementation of existing agreements and advocated for increased engagement through high-level meetings and established defence cooperation mechanisms. Additionally, he extended an invitation to Malaysia’s defence leaders and companies to attend the Vietnam International Defence Expo 2026, scheduled to take place in Hanoi.

Expressing gratitude, the Malaysian ambassador acknowledged the support received from Vietnam’s defence ministry and military during his tenure. He emphasized the importance of further developing defence ties, which he believes are crucial for ensuring peace and prosperity across the region.
