Việt Nam and Singapore are aiming to enhance their political trust and strategic coordination, focusing on advancements in technology, innovation, and sustainable development. This strengthened cooperation comes as Vietnamese leader Tô Lâm prepares for a state visit to Singapore from May 29 to 31. Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyễn Mạnh Cường highlighted that their bilateral relations have moved beyond traditional economic ties, now targeting future-oriented sectors that foster long-term growth and ASEAN regional integration.
The two nations’ relationship was notably elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2025, marking a significant increase in political trust and shared strategic interests. Singapore continues to be a key economic partner for Việt Nam, standing as its second-largest foreign investor. The country is actively involved in thousands of projects within sectors like manufacturing, infrastructure, logistics, finance, real estate, and high technology.
A notable example of their collaboration is the Việt Nam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) network, which is evolving into greener and smarter industrial models aligning with sustainable development goals. Both countries are also enhancing their cooperation in fields such as artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, big data, clean energy, digital transformation, and green transition initiatives. Efforts are being made to link innovation ecosystems, technology enterprises, and skilled talent networks in both nations.
Tô Lâm’s visit is expected to further economic cooperation, with a focus on finance, trade, supply chains, and technology development. Initiatives like “Tech Connect” aim to strengthen connections between governments, universities, research institutes, and private companies, emphasizing areas such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and green technology. The visit will also support the next wave of sustainable and high-tech VSIP projects across Việt Nam.
During his trip, Tô Lâm is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the Shangri-La Dialogue, a prominent security forum in Singapore, highlighting Việt Nam’s growing role on the international stage and its commitment to peace, cooperation, and strategic autonomy. Vietnamese officials regard this invitation as a testament to their country’s expanding international influence.
