Vietnam Urges Major South Korean Firms to Boost Investments

Vietnam’s National Assembly President Trần Thanh Mẫn recently visited Seoul, where he engaged with leaders of major South Korean conglomerates, emphasizing the necessity to boost investment in high-tech sectors such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, energy, and sustainable development. His discussions underscored Vietnam’s strategic focus on attracting quality foreign investment and enhancing economic collaboration with South Korea, particularly in areas of advanced technology and digital industries.

During a meeting with Samsung Electronics CEO Roh Tae-moon, Mẫn lauded the company’s significant role in Vietnam through investments that have fostered job creation and supported local businesses, contributing to state revenue. He encouraged Samsung to further increase its high-tech investments to aid Vietnam’s economic growth. Roh affirmed Samsung’s commitment to align its operations with Vietnam’s development goals, focusing on digital transformation, technological innovation, and workforce enhancement. Samsung has been actively supporting Vietnamese enterprises with initiatives in smart factory setups, automation, and skill development programs.

Mẫn also held discussions with SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, advocating for increased investment in semiconductors, AI, renewable energy, and emissions-reduction technologies. He welcomed SK Group’s proposal to establish a large-scale AI center in Vietnam and its intentions to explore investments in AI data centers and energy infrastructure.

In talks with LG Innotek CEO Moon Hyuk-soo, Mẫn highlighted LG Group’s substantial $10 billion investment in Vietnam, urging the company to deepen its cooperation with Vietnamese suppliers and bolster technology and skills development. LG acknowledged Vietnam as a crucial component of its global production network. Similarly, during his meeting with Lotte Group Chairman Shin Dong-bin, Mẫn encouraged the expansion of investments in smart urban development, infrastructure, tourism, and services, emphasizing the importance of sustainability, green development, and adherence to ESG standards.
