Vietnam and Côte d’Ivoire are taking decisive steps to enhance their bilateral relations by focusing on expanding ties in trade, investment, and other crucial sectors. The Vietnamese Minister Tô Lâm emphasized the importance of their growing partnership, noting that Côte d’Ivoire became Vietnam’s largest trading partner in Africa in 2025. He urged both countries to broaden their trade cooperation and move beyond traditional products like cashew nuts and rice.
The Vietnamese leadership is keen on fostering investment cooperation in a wide range of areas, including agriculture, telecommunications, oil and gas, digital transformation, cybersecurity, infrastructure, mineral processing, and electric vehicles. By diversifying investment, Vietnam aims to create more robust economic links with Côte d’Ivoire.
Côte d’Ivoire, on the other hand, is eager to attract Vietnamese businesses and sees significant potential in expanding cooperation throughout West Africa. The Ivorian delegation expressed a strong interest in enhancing these economic connections, which could lead to increased economic activity and mutual benefits for both nations.
In addition to economic ties, both countries are also focusing on strengthening parliamentary exchanges, education, workforce development, and fostering people-to-people connections. These efforts are designed to build a more comprehensive relationship that goes beyond economic interests, laying a foundation for long-term collaboration and mutual understanding between the two countries.
