During the ASEAN+3 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Manila, Vietnam called for enhanced economic integration and regional resilience. Vietnamese Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung emphasized the need for ASEAN members, alongside China, Japan, and South Korea, to strengthen their cooperation in trade, connectivity, and sustainable development. He highlighted the critical role of effectively implementing regional trade agreements and encouraged collaboration in areas such as energy security, food security, digital transformation, innovation, and clean energy.
Minister Trung proposed the exploration of regional energy cooperation mechanisms to bolster resilience against future economic and geopolitical challenges. His remarks underscored the importance of a united effort in addressing these issues, which are crucial for sustaining long-term growth and stability across the region.
The meeting reaffirmed the significance of the ASEAN+3 framework as a central platform for regional cooperation. Participating countries agreed to expedite the ASEAN+3 Work Plan for 2023–2027, demonstrating a shared commitment to advancing collective goals. This plan includes strengthening financial cooperation, expanding regional food reserves, promoting renewable energy initiatives, and boosting investment in education, technology, tourism, and cultural exchanges.
In addition to these developments, China, Japan, and South Korea reiterated their support for ASEAN’s central role in regional affairs. They pledged ongoing assistance in advancing the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, reflecting a unified approach towards fostering a prosperous and resilient regional community.
