Thailand has declared the entire city of Bangkok a disaster-affected area following several days of heavy rainfall that led to widespread flooding and significant disruptions across the capital. The declaration, which encompasses all 50 districts, enables authorities to implement emergency measures such as accelerating drainage operations, setting up temporary shelters, and identifying vulnerable populations including bedridden patients.
The flooding has severely impacted transportation, causing traffic disruptions and making movement difficult throughout the city. Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt has instructed relevant agencies to work together to ensure swift delivery of assistance to residents in need. In addition, authorities will assess damages to both public and private properties to expedite the provision of aid and compensation to affected communities.
Since Thursday, Bangkok has experienced nearly 300 millimeters of rain, resulting in significant waterlogging and flooding across various parts of the city. This has intensified the challenges faced by residents and city officials as they work to manage the crisis and mitigate further damage.
