Vietnam Leader Pushes Hà Nội to Speed Up Economic Sustainability Efforts

Vietnam’s Party General Secretary and State President Tô Lâm has urged Hà Nội to accelerate its economic growth while maintaining a focus on sustainable development and enhancing the quality of life for its residents. In a recent meeting with city leaders, Tô Lâm acknowledged the capital’s achievements in institutional reforms and infrastructure development but highlighted areas needing improvement, such as slow growth rates and underutilized resources.

Despite progress, Hà Nội faces significant challenges, including delays in major urban projects. Tô Lâm emphasized the need for the city to tap into idle resources and hasten the completion of critical infrastructure projects. Strengthening support for businesses, promoting tourism, fostering innovation, and enhancing public services are seen as vital steps towards achieving these goals.

The Party General Secretary outlined key priorities for the city, which include addressing traffic congestion, reducing pollution, and expanding housing options. Additionally, he stressed the importance of investing in education, healthcare, and digital transformation to drive the city’s development forward.

Hà Nội has set an ambitious target of achieving an 11% growth in its Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) by 2026. This comes after the city recorded an impressive 8.22% economic growth in the first half of the year, surpassing the national average. The city’s leadership is now tasked with translating these directives into concrete actions to meet their economic objectives while ensuring the well-being of its citizens.
