Vietnam and Georgia Enhance Trade and Cooperation Through Strategic Talks

Vietnamese Vice President Võ Thị Ánh Xuân and Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze met in Tbilisi on October 12 to discuss expanding trade, investment, and cooperation between Vietnam and Georgia. The talks focused on strengthening bilateral relations in areas such as trade, tourism, education, and infrastructure.

Prime Minister Kobakhidze emphasized Georgia’s commitment to enhancing ties with Vietnam, pointing to the sixfold increase in bilateral trade over the past five years and a 41% rise in Vietnamese visitors to Georgia in the first half of 2026. Both leaders expressed interest in improving transport links, including exploring the potential for direct flights between the two countries.

Vice President Xuân advocated for stronger diplomatic exchanges and improved market access for Vietnamese products. She identified opportunities for collaboration in agriculture, food processing, innovation, and tourism, and encouraged greater cultural exchanges and people-to-people connections.

In addition to economic cooperation, the leaders agreed to bolster defense and security ties and to collaborate at international organizations like the United Nations. They also discussed enhancing connections between Vietnam, Georgia, and ASEAN member states.

During the visit, the two countries celebrated the signing of cooperation memorandums between their foreign ministries and agricultural and environmental authorities. They also called for progress on agreements concerning investment protection, double taxation avoidance, and visa exemptions for diplomatic and official passport holders.

Both sides expressed optimism about the future of their bilateral relationship and agreed to prepare for activities marking the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027.
