In a significant move to combat counterfeit products, Thailand is set to destroy over 2 million goods seized in cases of intellectual property infringement. This year, authorities will dispose of 2.08 million items, marking a 36.45% increase from the 1.52 million goods destroyed in 2025. The value of these confiscated items has surged to THB2.14 billion, up from THB900.91 million last year.
The range of seized counterfeit goods includes clothing, watches, bags, electronic equipment, vehicle parts, medicines, cosmetics, food, and beverages, alongside various other consumer products. Enforcement operations have been actively conducted in both online and offline markets to curb the spread of these counterfeit items.
To ensure safe and environmentally friendly disposal, the destruction is taking place at facilities equipped with environmental management systems located in Samut Prakan and Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya. This method aims to prevent any harm to nearby communities as the counterfeit goods are eradicated.
Despite these efforts, Thailand continues to be listed on the Watch List of the 2026 Special 301 Report concerning intellectual property protection and enforcement. In response, Thai authorities are collaborating with the United States to enhance their intellectual property work plan. This plan focuses on strengthening enforcement measures, reducing counterfeit sales, safeguarding consumer interests, and fostering a more transparent business environment.
