Vietnam, along with other member economies of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), is intensifying efforts to foster collaboration aimed at helping micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) embrace digital transformation. The focus is on adopting artificial intelligence (AI) to boost productivity and enhance competitive edge. This was emphasized during a recent APEC workshop held in Hanoi, where Vietnamese officials underscored the critical need to support these enterprises through technology transfer, digital skills enhancement, and innovation.
The workshop served as a platform for dialogue, bringing together representatives from APEC economies, international organizations, and leading technology firms. Discussions centered around the adoption of AI, the development of digital infrastructure, improving access to finance, and bridging the digital divide, all aimed at equipping MSMEs with the tools needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
This initiative is also part of Vietnam’s broader agenda as it gears up to host the APEC summit in 2027. The workshop participants are tasked with crafting policy recommendations that advocate for the responsible use of AI and bolster regional cooperation in the digital economy. Such measures are expected to facilitate a more integrated and equitable digital ecosystem across the region.
As APEC economies move towards greater digital integration, the focus on MSMEs is particularly significant. By equipping these enterprises with advanced technological capabilities and fostering a supportive policy environment, APEC aims to ensure that smaller businesses can compete on a more level playing field.
