Vietnam and Canada have formalized a new Action Plan aimed at strengthening their Strategic Partnership, with Vietnamese Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung and Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand signing the agreement in Ottawa. This plan outlines specific areas for enhanced collaboration, transforming prior commitments into actionable projects across a wide range of sectors.
The comprehensive Action Plan targets multiple domains, including political and diplomatic relations, trade and investment, science and technology, digital transformation, healthcare, education, energy security, and sustainable development. Additionally, it covers transport, infrastructure, defense and security, law enforcement, culture, and people-to-people exchanges. The plan seeks to ensure regular reviews and updates, emphasizing the need for robust coordination among government agencies, local authorities, and businesses for effective execution.
Both nations have pledged to fortify existing bilateral consultation mechanisms and explore new strategic dialogue frameworks. During their discussions, the ministers also addressed regional and international issues, agreeing to collaborate more closely through multilateral platforms such as the United Nations, ASEAN, and APEC.
As part of their cooperative efforts, Vietnam and Canada committed to supporting each other’s roles in hosting APEC meetings in 2027 and 2029. Vietnam also expressed its backing for Canada’s hosting of the Francophonie Summit in 2028, highlighting the ongoing commitment to mutual support in international engagements.
